The City of Boise is dedicated to providing its citizens the opportunity to learn about our unique local environment and ways to live sustainably within it. Boise Environmental Education is a multi-agency partnership providing environmental lessons and programs to children and adults. The city departments of Public Works and Parks & Recreation cooperate to bring you an assortment of classroom lessons, field trips, regular monthly programs and special events designed to educate, inform, and entertain.

Through the Foothills Learning Center and the Boise WaterShed Education Center, the city provides an extensive school-age education program where children learn about our environment from the ridge tops to the river. Adults and families participate in our Saturday programs and other special events. Teachers gain classroom skills though workshops. Artists show their work and teach the community.

The Boise WaterShed, located at the West Boise Wastewater Treatment Plant, features high-tech interactive computer exhibits, and a theater and library. The Foothills Learning Center, located in the Boise foothills desert-sagebrush ecosystem, provides low-tech outdoor foothills experiences plus classroom and conference room spaces.

Boise Environmental Education invites you to explore our wild community, to develop a new sense of place, and to discover the lessons to be learned from nature.

Your journey into environmental education begins with the Boise WaterShed and Foothills Learning Center, and continues with our city partners.
