You can learn more about proper planting techniques, pruning, watering and other topics in free classes taught by tree professionals from Boise Parks & Recreation’s Community Forestry Unit and Boise State University. Classes start Wednesday, March 4.
Sessions meet from 6-8:30 p.m. at Borah High School cafeteria, 6001 Cassia St.. You can sign up for one or all of the classes. The schedule is:
March 4 -- Tree Biology
March 11 -- Pruning
March 18 -- Planting/Selection
March 25 -- Identifying Tree Problems
Participants who complete the first two classes can further their knowledge and gain experience by volunteering with the Boise Tree Stewards. Tree Stewards help Boise Parks & Recreation with pruning and care of public trees in parks and rights-of-way.
Boise Community Forestry is responsible for the preservation, protection and management of more than 41,000 publicly-owned trees in the City of Boise. Boise has been named a Tree City USA for 29 consecutive years by the National Arbor Day Foundation. The national award recognizes Boise’s commitment to a comprehensive community forestry program, which includes the care and planting of public trees.
