Q. What day will my recycling be collected?
A. Recyclable materials are collected every other week on the same day as your trash. Set your blue cart(s) out at the curb, across the driveway from your trash carts, if possible.
Q. If I do not recycle, will I receive a recycling cart?
A. No, if you do NOT currently recycle, you must call (208) 345-1266 to order a recycling cart.
Q. Do I still have to sort recyclables?
A. No, just throw them in the cart. Please no glass, Styrofoam, or trash. Please view the recycling list for a list of acceptable curbside recyclables.
Q. What do I do with my used motor oil?
A. Place your used motor oil in a non-returnable, transparent one-gallon jug and set it next to (not inside) your recycling cart. Motor oil will not be accepted if it is mixed with other fluids such as: gasoline, antifreeze, etc. It needs to be in a transparent container so the driver can verify the contents. Label the container "Used Motor Oil". Recycle up to 2 gallons per household per week. The original oil containers cannot be recycled. The containers should be completely empty and thrown in the trash.
Q. What do I do if my recycling is not picked-up?
A. If your recycling cart was not emptied you may have been missed. Please have your cart out by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. If you have not been picked-up by the end of the day, and you have not received a note about a problem with the collection, call Allied Waste at (208) 345-1266 to notify them. Your set-out will be collected the next service day.
Q. What materials can I recycle in the new cart?
A. The materials you can recycle curbside will remain the same, you just don't have to sort them. Please do not put glass or trash in the new recycling carts. For a complete list of what you can recycle, please view the recycling list.
Q. Can I recycle glass in the new cart?
A. No, glass contaminates the materials in the recycling cart. Because recycling pick-up is automated, it is likely that glass will not be found until it reaches the recycling center. This means that the entire load of recyclables has been contaminated and has to be discarded. Broken glass also poses a safety risk to the workers who sort the recyclables.
Q. How can I find out my week for recycling collection?
A. Recycling collection will occur on your trash day every other week. To help you remember your recycling week, there is a decal inside the lid of your recycling cart. If it's a purple decal, you recycle on purple colored weeks. If it's an orange decal, you recycle on orange colored weeks. View the calendarcalendar to see the 2009 recycling collection schedule. If you have any questions, please call Allied Waste at (208) 345-1266 or Boise City at (208) 384-3901.
Q. Can I use my blue recycling cart for extra trash?
A. No. Trash and recycling pick-up is automated. Throwing trash in the recycling container will not only contaminate your recyclables, but all the materials collected by the truck. Once contaminated, all of those materials need to go to the landfill. Residents who violate this rule will be charged the costs of decontamination.
Q. How do I handle extra cardboard that might not fit into my cart properly?
A. The best thing you can do is cut the cardboard down to manageable pieces that can fit in the cart. If you have extra cardboard that won't fit in the cart, another option is to call Allied Waste at (208) 345-1266 to schedule a special pick-up of large or bulky amounts of cardboard and other recyclables.
