Boise's new trash service is on a roll. In addition to new, easy-to-use carts that contain trash, save space, and keep our streets and alleys clean, the City's trash service will continue to include large item disposal, carry-out service, low-income discounts for qualifying residents, and convenient drop-off centers for hazardous waste all while maintaining some of the lowest rates for trash disposal in the Northwest.
Trash and recycling will be collected using trucks that run on one of the cleanest burning alternative fuels, compressed natural gas (CNG). The new trucks will also be equipped with mechanical arms that lift carts and empty them into the truck reducing the risk of injury to drivers who don't even have to leave the cab.
Trash is taken to the Ada County Landfill, which employs a methane recapture system to generate electricity and provide power to thousands of local homes. The presence of yard waste and other organic materials in the landfill actually facilitates the generation of gas and more electricity.
