Council Member Jim Tibbs
Jim Tibbs was elected to the Boise City Council in November 2005. He has been a resident of Boise for 48 years and graduated from Boise State University, where he received his B.A. degree in Criminology.
In 1970, he began a successful career with the Boise Police Department. During his 34 years of dedicated service, he filled many roles, such as: Lt., Community Outreach Division, Lt., Public Information Officer, Watch Commander and President for the Boise Police Association. Before retiring from the Boise Police Department in December of 2004, Jim served as the Interim Chief of Police. Over the years, he received various accolades, including: The Human Rights Award from the Idaho Voices of Faith, and the Mid Manager of the Year Award from the Boise Police Department.
Jim is married to Sally Tibbs, and they have two children. He has served as the Chairman of the Board for Bogus Basin Ski Association, a Board Member for the Human Rights Task Force, and is the Chairman of the Idaho State Board of Corrections.
As an active Boise community member, Jim has experience working with businesses, state and local officials, and has an extensive network of community organizations.
