Volunteer & Internship Opportunities
In order to keep participation costs to a minimum, we rely on volunteer support. In 2011, 153 volunteers donated over 3,275 hours helping the AdVenture program. We are always seeking enthusiastic people who are interested in working with individuals with disabilities in a recreational setting. For the well-being of our participants, we ask that our volunteers be at least 18 years of age or older. Some of our volunteer opportunities include:
Accommodations
Working one-on-one with a participant with a disability providing extra assistance while they are taking a class.
Idaho Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp
Providing one-on-one assistance to a youth athlete involved in this sports camp.
Waterskiing & Tubing
Assisting with the waterskiing and tubing program either by helping the participants while in the water or donating your time and ski boat to drive participants while they are skiing or tubing.
Rafting
Assisting participants in our adaptive whitewater rafting program by being a boat captain or safety kayaker. Past river experience on Class III-IV rivers is necessary.
ChairHoops Fundraisers
Volunteer at our annual Wheelchair Basketball Tournament "ChairHoops," as a referee or scorekeeper.

Internship Opportunities
The overall goal of an internship with Boise Parks & Recreation’s Adaptive Recreation Services is to give students a valuable experience in a community recreation program that provides opportunities to individuals with disabilities.
Therapeutic Recreation Internships are available in the summer and must be a minimum of 12 weeks at 40 hours per week. Supervision is provided by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and we follow NCTRC guidelines.
