Hershey's Track & Field Games

Boise Parks & Recreation will host a local meet for HERSHEY'S Track & Field Games on May 24, 2012 at Borah High School Track. This event is free of charge for youth, 7-8**, 9 - 14 (age as of December 31, 2012).
Hershey’s Track & Field Games, celebrating its 35th anniversary, is designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship. It is the largest youth sports program of its kind in the United States and Canada, where local meets take place in every state and province.
First and second place finishers at the local meet qualify to participate in the state meet (date and location TBD, transportation not provided). First place finishers at the state meet may qualify for the North American Final to be held in Hershey, PA August 2-5, 2012 (all expense paid trip for participant).
Participants must pre-register by May 22, 2012 – completed entry form and copy of birth certificate are required.Girls and boys compete separately in four age groups: 7-8**, 9-10, 11-12 & 13-14.

**Age group 7-8 events are offered in Idaho, at the discretion of the State Chair, for local and state meets only. Participants will not qualify for the North American Final.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE RULES
Taken from the Official Rule Book.
1. All participants must compete in their age group and sex division. Age is determined as of December 31 of the current year.
2. Participants who take part in Junior Varsity or Varsity Track Programs or are members of a Track Club ARE eligible to participate in the HERSHEY'S Track & Field Games as long as the state/provincial high school athletic governing body does not prohibit participation.
3. Participants may not wear shoes designated for spikes. In field events, any shoes designed for turf sports are not allowed.
4. Participants may not wear jewelry and hair beads or decoration or sunglasses.
5. Starting blocks are not permitted.
6. A participant may compete in up to three events; two running events (includes relays for 13-14 age groups) and one field event or two field events and one running event. For 9-10 and 11-12 age groups, the 4 x 100 relay does not count as a running event and will not qualify for North American Final.
7. All local meet winners must have their age verified at the local level competition.
8. A participant may enter only one local meet.
9. A participant must participate in the state/province in which he/she resides.
