A new community center is located at the new Grace Jordan Elementary School near the intersection of Overland and Curtis in Boise.
The school and community center were built on the grounds of McKinley Elementary School. Grace Jordan is the new school for students from the former McKinley, Jackson, & Franklin Elementary Schools.
The 4,000-square-foot community center features multipurpose rooms for free after-school drop-in use, an art center with classes for children and adults, and a supervised teen activity center with computers, games, and a lounging area.
The center features an art & dance studio, for fee-based instruction for children and adults. This spring’s fee-based classes include acrylic painting, parent-toddler dance, ballet, drama, and a variety of and other visual and performing arts activities. Registration will be accepted by phone (384-4486), in person at Fort Boise Community Center, or online.
Kid City, a free after-school drop-in program open form 3:00-7:00pm for children in grades 4-6, will include fitness and art programs, homework assistance, and a snack provided by the Boise School District. Kid City will be open year round.
Teens will enjoy an informal gathering space with cozy lounge chairs, computer stations with interactive video games, and a flat-screen TV with Nintendo Wii. Staff members will provide mentoring and life skills development for teens. The teen center hours are weekdays from 3:00-7:00pm.
The centers are located in a wing adjacent to the school cafeterias and gymnasiums. Community center hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
