SPRING BREAK CAMPS & ACTIVITIES
From art classes to Zoo Boise education programs, Boise Parks & Recreation offers a variety of spring break camps for school-age youth.
ART CAMPS (6-8yrs & 9-12 yrs)
Let your child explore his or her creativity in three-hour classes that meet daily during spring break. “Hands on” activities will include clay, watercolor, drawing, designing, sculpting and much more! Students can choose from sessions offered in the morning or in the afternoon. All materials are provided. Camps are offered from 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. March 28-April 1 for kids age 6-8 and 9-12 at Fort Boise Community Center, 700 Robbins Road. DRAMA CAMP (9-12 yrs)
Kids will love this unique musical theater experience! Skits, musical production, improvisational activities, and basic theater knowledge are all part of this week-long camp. Each participant needs to bring sack lunch, water bottle and a snack. There will be a mini-performance on the last day of the camp. Open to boys and girls age 9-12, this camp meets from 9 a.m.-noon March 28-April 1 at the Whitney Community Center, 1609 S. Owyhee St. Cost is $41 for Boise City residents, $63 non-residents. GOLF CAMP (7-15 yrs)
This camp is designed to prepare youth to play golf independently. Instructors focus on full swing, short game, sand play, & rules both on the course and in practice. Campers will take breaks throughout the week for movies & down time. Topics also include course strategy & playing, tournament preparation, confidence building and basic rules. Lunch will be the responsibility of the athlete. Clubs will be provided at no cost. IT’S GREAT TO SKATE CAMP (5-12 yrs)
Idaho IceWorld is offering “It’s Great to Skate,” a spring break learn-to-skate camp for boys and girls age 5-12 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. March 28-April 1. The cost is $100 (includes rental skates, if needed). At “It’s Great to Skate,” beginning skaters will learn basic skating skills from professional/certified coaches. Camp includes snacks, games, friendship and fun in a secure family friendly environment. Idaho IceWorld is a two-rink indoor facility operated by Boise Parks & Recreation at 7071 S. HOCKEY CAMP (7-18 yrs)
Boys and girls age 7-18 can learn how to play hockey at a spring break camp offered March 28-April 1 at Idaho IceWorld, 7072 S. Eisenman Road. The Edge Hockey camp covers stick handling, power skating, edge work and passing. Camp meets from 8:15-11:15 a.m. daily. The cost is $100. Full hockey equipment is required. REC ‘EM (9-12 yrs)
This four-day spring break camp for boys and girls age 9-12 gives our participants the opportunity to experience a wide array of activities – from basketball to climbing and ice skating. Activities will be both traditional and non-traditional; we will be outside as much as possible. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch and water each day (snacks are also welcome). BUILDING BLOCKS: WE DO ROBOTICS (7-11 yrs)
Youngsters will learn simple math, science, physics, and architecture while using Lego® Bricks. In this fun class, participants will take visual and math concepts to a whole new level through building different structures while learning how to program motion and sound with Lego® software! All Lego® Bricks, computers and computer software will be provided. Open to boys and girls age 7-11, this class meets from 10-11:30 a.m. March 28-April 1 at Grace Jordan Community Center, 6411 W. MOUNTAIN BIKING (6-8 & 9-12 yrs)
Explore some of the single-track trails on the Boise Front in our spring break camp March 28-April 1. Classes meet from 9 a.m.-noon for kids age 9-12 and 1-4 p.m. for children age 6-8. Learn proper bike maintenance, equipment responsibility, technical skills, safety, sharing, respect and more! Enjoy the outdoors with other young people your age in a fun and positive way. YOUTH SAFETY COURSE (9 - 12 yrs)
This 3-day camp is designed to provide young riders education and practical experience in order to better understand laws and rules for riding on the road. Both instructional discussion and actual riding provide the proper techniques to be safe, visible, and responsible when riding on the road. Be prepared with a helmet, jacket, gloves, proper shoes (no flip-flops/sandals), as well as a snack and fluids. Open to kids age 9-12, camp meets from 1-3:30 p.m. March 28-30. Camp is based out of Fort Boise Community Center, 700 Robbins Road and is co-sponsored by the Southwest Idaho Mountain Biking Association. ZOO BOISE
GOIN’ WILD! (Grades 1-3 & 4-6)
Come explore the wonderfully wild world of animals. Through a variety of games, crafts, hands-on science experiments, zoo tours, and an up-close animal encounter, students will explore animal wildlife. Your animal tour guides include giraffes, dragons, pandas, and penguins! Campers should bring a snack & sack lunch and dress for the weather.
Animal Outlaws : Good Animals with Bad Reputations
Why do these “bad” animals do the things they do? They are just trying to survive! You’ll examine these animals and their behavior closely to find out why they aren’t so bad. Open to boys and girls in grades 1-3, this one-day camp meets from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 30. We share an amazing world with wildlife. In this 1-day camp, we’ll participate games and tours as well as service and conservation projects that help YOU make a difference for animals and the habitats in which they live.
