The annual event, which is coordinated by Boise Parks & Recreation, is open to youth age 9-14 as of Dec. 31, 2008. Boys and girls compete separately in three age groups -- 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.
Field events include standing long jump and softball throw. Running events include the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m and 4x100m relay. Wheelchair events include the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Not all events are offered for each age group.
Participants may compete in up to three events -- one field and two running events or two field and one running event. The 4x100m relay counts as a running event.
Check in for field events begins at 4:30 p.m.; competition starts at 5:15 p.m. For running and wheelchair events, check in begins at 5:30 p.m.; competition starts at 6:15 p.m.
The top two finishers in each event in the local meet quality to participate in the state meet (location TBA). State winners become eligible to advance to the North American Final July 31-Aug. 3 in Hershey, Penn.
Nationally, more than 400,000 children from 3,000 communities participate in the program annually. Sponsors include Hershey Foods Corp., the National Recreation and Park Association, USA Track & Field and Athletics Canada.
