A pilot project has begun to allow dogs off-leash during designated hours in 7 city parks.
The program was approved in March by the Parks & Recreation Commission, a citizen board that provides oversight for the Boise Parks & Recreation Department.
Parks and hours for the dog off-leash pilot program are:
Castle Hills Park, 5350 Eugene St. -- Sunrise to 10 a.m. & 4 p.m. to sunset
Cypress Park, 4382 S. Tableridge Way -- Sunrise to 10 a.m. & 4 p.m. to sunset
Hillside Park, 4150 N. 36th St. – 4 p.m. to sunset
Manitou Park, 2001 S. Manitou Ave. -- Sunrise to 10 a.m. & 4 p.m. to sunset
Redwood Park, 2675 N. Shamrock St. -- Sunrise to 10 a.m. & 4 p.m. to sunset
Sunset Park, 2625 N. 32nd St -- Sunrise to 10 a.m.
Winstead Park, 6150 Northview St. -- June 1-August 31, Sunrise to 8 a.m; September 1-May 31, Sunrise to 10 a.m.; November 1-February 1, 3:00 p.m. to sunset.
Signs have been posted in each park with maps and appropriate regulations. Owners are required to pick up after their pets.
Results of the pilot project will be monitored for up to one year. Animal control officers and Boise Parks & Recreation staff will closely monitor compliance with the rules and evaluate seasonal park use patterns.
Public feedback is welcome. It’s been a year and it is time to conduct our year-end evaluation of the pilot off-leash program. We need to know how you think the program has worked for your neighborhood park.
