750 Mountain Cove Rd
Military Reserve is 479 acres of land reserved for several different uses. The reserve is located in the northeast portion of Boise. Amenities available in the area are an archery range, old-fashioned cemetery and hiking and mountain biking trails. There are several controlled off-leash trails located in Military Reserve. Military Reserve Flood Basin Dog Off-Leash Area is located at the corner of Reserve St and Mountain Cove Rd.
The land was purchased from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management by the City of Boise in March of 1956. The access road and cemetery were then transferred to the City of Boise to ensure maintenance was kept on these areas.
The Reserve is comprised of natural terrain in the Boise Foothills. Running through the lower portion are the Freestone and Cottonwood Creeks. From these creek valleys, hill masses rise on moderate to steep slopes to heights of one hundred feet or more. Many of the trails are family-friendly!
The Military Cemetery is located on a hillside approximately one half mile east of the U.S. Veteran's Administration hospital. Veterans of the Mexican War, Civil War, Indian Wars, and Spanish American War are interred here. There are also several civilian graves here.
