Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Boise Parks & Recreation. We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for you or your organization to be involved with. These opportunities range from on time volunteer events to ongoing year round or seasonal programs. It is also possible for us to set you or your group up with a project that meets your availability or interest.
If you or your organization are interested in volunteering with us, you will be required to review the City of Boise Volunteer Handbook and sign a volunteer waiver prior to placement. Some volunteer positions are sensitive in nature or involve working closely with at risk populations. These positions may require you to undergo a criminal history background check and/or fingerprint test.

Adopt the Greenbelt
Ongoing Program
Do you love the Boise River and Greenbelt as much as we do? If so, this is the program for you. As a participant in this program, you can adopt a section of the Greenbelt and help keep it clean throughout the year. If you adopt a section, you will be asked to visit your section at least once a month to pick up the trash that accumulates there. The program allows you to volunteer when you or your organization's schedule allows.

AdVenture
Ongoing Program
Boise Parks & Recreation's AdVenture Program, meaning Adaptive Adventures, offers recreation opportunities for individuals with disabilities, their families, and friends. Activities include wilderness excursions, fitness programs, sports and social events. The AdVenture Program is always seeking enthusiastic people who are interested in in working with individuals with disabilities in a recreational setting.

Boise RiverSweep
September 11th, 2010
Keeping the Boise River clean is everyone's responsibility. It is the Boise RiverSweep's mission is to do just that by working with volunteers to pick up the trash and debris that carelessly gets thrown on its banks throughout the Summer. If you love the Boise River and would like to see it clean and safe for future generations to enjoy, please join us in this important endeavor.

Eagle Award Projects

We are proud to offer Boy Scouts the opportunity to earn their Eagle Award with Boise Parks & Recreation. If you are at least 15 years old and have obtained the rank of Life Scout, pleas review our Eagle Award Project Policy. Environmental Education
Ongoing Program
You can help Boise's Environmental Education Program promote learning and understanding of our local environment. The program includes the Foothills Learning Center and Boise WaterShed, both of which try to raise awareness about our environment, the urban-wildland interface, Boise's water resources, and challenges managing agencies face in caring for these unique lands. Classes include lessons on recycling, composting, household hazardous waste, storm water and groundwater protection, air quality, and other local issues in a classroom environment.

Fourth of July Celebration
July 4 - July 5, 2010
Come help the City of Boise celebrate our nation's Independence Day in Ann Morrison Park. We are looking for volunteers to assist with a variety of tasks before, during, and after the event including set up, information, security, parking and traffic, maintaining trash receptacles, and clean up after the fireworks show. There are a variety of shifts for you to choose from. Individuals and groups are welcome. If you are interested in helping with this very fun event, please contact us for more information.

Hershey's Track and Field Games
May 20, 2010
Hershey's Track & Field Games are designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship. It's the largest youth sports program of its kind in the United States and Canada. Boise Parks & Recreation is looking for volunteers to help with measuring, timing and recording for the field events (softball throw & standing long jump) from approximately 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on the day of the event. Volunteers must be 16 years of age to participate.

Idaho Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp
June 16 - 19, 2010
The Idaho Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp needs you! For the past 22 years, the Idaho Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp has provided youth with physical disabilities a memorable day camp experience. Individuals age 6 - 21 who use a wheelchair or an assisted device have the opportunity to develop skills, improve their fitness level, and try several new sports. Participants train and practice in a variety of athletic and recreational activities such as tennis, track and field, fishing, canoeing and basketball.
We are currently looking for volunteers age 16 and older who are interested in becoming involved with the camp. Volunteers assist the campers in all activities on a one-to-one basis. They help support and cheer the athletes, as well as become a friend and mentor. Please join us and help make a difference for these athletes.

Paint the Parks

You can paint shelters, picnic areas, or gazebos within one of our many parks. If you would like to help keep the park amenities you use every day looking as good as new, come join us in this event.

Releaf Boise

You can help our Community Forestry Unit beautify our great city by planting a tree. Releaf Boise is the City's annual tree planting program associated with American Forest's Global Releaf Campaign. The goal of this event is to shade our city's streets and do our part to ease global (Boise's) warming.

Tending Our Foothills
May 8, 2009
Do you have a passion for the Boise Foothills? If you answered yes, then this is the event for you. Sponsored by our Ridge to Rivers unit, Tending Our Foothills involves citizens in the upkeep and management of the 125 miles of trails and thousands of acres of open space in the Boise Front.
The focus of the event will be conduct a user survey that will help us determine user satisfaction, as well as identify possible management needs and problem locations.
We are looking for teams of 2-3 volunteers to conduct the survey, at a number of locations. Three, four hour shifts are available: 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Do you want to learn how to keep your trees healthy and strong? The Tree Steward Volunteer Program will teach you how to do just that. You will learn proper pruning techniques and general tree care while helping maintain the many trees within our parks.
