These opportunities range from one time volunteer events to ongoing year round or seasonal programs. Adopt the Greenbelt
Ongoing Program
Do you love the Boise River and Greenbelt as much as we do? If so, you can help us keep them clean and safe for our community by adopting a 1/2 to 2/3 mile section to care for throughout the year. Participants in the program are asked to visit their section at least once a month to pick trash. The program allows you to volunteer when your schedule allows. There are sections currently available, so please contact us if you want to help us care for this precious resource.

Ongoing Program
Boise Parks & Recreation's AdVenture Program, meaning Adapted Adventures, offers recreation, wilderness excursions, fitness programs, sports and social activities to individuals with disabilities, their families and friends. The AdVenture Program is always seeking enthusiastic people who are interested in working with individuals with disabilities in a recreational setting.

Boise RiverSweep

Keeping the Boise River clean is everyone's responsibility. It is the Boise RiverSweep's mission to do just that by working with volunteers to pick up the debris that gets thrown on the banks throughout the summer. Eagle Award Projects

We are proud to offer Boy Scouts the opportunity to earn their Eagle Award with Boise Parks & Recreation. If you are at least 15 years old and have obtained the rank of Life Scout, please read our Eagle Award Project Policy. Once you have read the policy, you may contact us to see what projects we are offering for Eagle Awards or propose a project to us. Environmental Education
Ongoing Program
You can help Boise's Environmental Education Program promote learning and understanding of our local environment. The program encompasses the Foothills Learning Center (FLC) and the EnviroGuard lessons that raise awareness about the desert environment, the urban-wildland interface and the challenges land management agencies face in caring for these unique lands. EnviroGuard teaches lessons on recycling, composting, household hazardous waste, storm water and groundwater protection, air quality, and other local issues in a classroom environment.

Hershey's Track and Field Games
May 20, 2009
Hershey's Track & Field Games are designed to encourage physical fitness among youth and emphasize participation and sportsmanship. It’s the largest youth sports program of its kind in the United States and Canada. Boise Parks & Recreation is looking for volunteers to help with measuring, timing, and recording for the field events (softball throw & standing long jump) from approximately 4:00-7:00 p.m. on the day of the event. We have a limited amount of volunteer positions available, so if you are interested please hurry to sign up. Volunteers must be 16 years of age to participate.

Idaho Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp
June 17 - 20, 2009
The Idaho Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp needs you! For the past 20 years, the Idaho Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp has provided youth with physical disabilities a memorable day camp experience. Individuals age 6-21 who use a wheelchair or an assisted device have the opportunity to develop skills, improve their fitness level and try several new sports. Participants train and practice in a variety of athletic and recreational activities such as tennis, track and field, fishing, canoeing and basketball.
We are currently looking for volunteers age 16 and older who are interested in becoming involved with the camp. Volunteers assist the campers in all activities on a one-to-one basis. They help support and cheer the athletes, as well as become a friend and mentor. Please join us and help make a difference for these athletes!

Kroeger Park Playground Renovation
August 8, 2009
Boise Parks & Recreation, in partnership with KaBOOM!, Albertsons/SUPERVALU, and the Southeast Boise Neighborhood Association, is happy to announce that we will be updating the playground equipment at Kroeger Park. The build will be entirely volunteer driven, with upwards of 200 volunteers constructing the playground. We are looking for volunteers to help prep the site on Thursday, August 6, as well as build the playground itself on Saturday, August 8. You are invited to help with this wonderful project. Volunteers are required to be at least 18 years of age.

Releaf Boise

Help our Community Forestry Unit beautify our great city by planting a tree. Releaf Boise is the City's annual volunteer tree planting program associated with American Forest's Global Releaf campaign. The goal of this event is to shade our city streets and do our part to ease global (Boise's) warming.

Tending Our Foothills
May 2, 2009
Do you have a passion for the Boise Foothills? If you answered yes, then this is the event for you. Sponsored by our Ridge to Rivers unit, Tending Our Foothills engages citizens in the upkeep and management of the 125 miles of trails and thousands of acres of open space in the Boise Front.
This year's event will be held on May 2, 2009, and will focus on conducting a user survey that will help us determine user satisfaction, as well as identify possible management needs and problem locations.
Volunteers will be broken into groups of 2-3 and sent out to various locations in the Foothills to conduct the survey. Three, four-hour shifts are available: 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Pre-registration is required. Volunteers will need to wear shoes and clothing appropriate for outdoor work, bring a wide brim hat, sunscreen, and drinking water.

Do you want to learn how to keep your trees healthy and strong? The Tree Steward Volunteer Program will teach you how to do just that. You will learn proper pruning techniques and general tree care by helping maintain the many trees within our Parks.

Ongoing Program
