What is Community Policing?
Community Policing is both a philosophy and an organizational strategy that allows police and community residents to work closely together in new ways to solve the problems of crime, fear of crime, physical and social disorders, and neighborhood decay.
Goals of Community Policing
- Maintain or increase public confidence in the Police Department.
- Decrease fear of crime.
- Listen to and address citizen concerns.
- Bring community resources together to solve problems.
- Impact specific crime problems.
- Reduce repetitive calls for service.
- Educate the public about its Police Department.
The Community Policing Team
Officers oversee and coordinate all community policing activities including the operation of all sub-stations.
Neighborhood Contact Officers: Assigned into specific beat areas and coordinate the Neighborhood Service Teams to work with neighborhood groups. Focus is on problem solving in the neighborhoods and manage long term projects such as Crime Free Multi-Housing.
Five sub-station operations are strategically placed in Boise. All Neighborhood Contact Officers are assigned to work out of these sub-stations. Additional sub-stations are being identified for future implementation.
Community Service Officers Staff each of our sub-stations and provide regular customer service hours to the community. The CSO's attend Neighborhood Service Team meetings and assist the Neighborhood Contact Officers when needed.
Volunteer Sub-Station Staff: Volunteers have been identified to help staff the substations after hours to ensure that the citizens of Boise are being served at these locations. These volunteers provide customer service, make victim call backs and help out where they are needed.
