Mission Statement
The mission of the Boise Police Department is to enhance public safety through proactive problem solving and increased community partnerships.
The organization’s philosophy is, in essence, those guiding principles and beliefs under which we (the organization) strive to achieve our mission, goals, and objectives. We believe in equal, fair, and impartial application of laws and ordinances; without regard to age, gender, race, creed, color, station in life, or sexual orientation. We believe in treating all individuals, regardless of their attitude or demeanor, with the courtesy, tolerance, sensitivity, and dignity we would expect if placed in a similar situation. We believe in the maintenance of individual human dignity and the preservation of human rights under the rule and spirit of law, which dictates that the end does not justify the means and punishment is not the function of police officers. We believe in providing quality, empathetic, and responsible service to the citizens of our community. The prevention of crime, which is our ultimate goal, can only be achieved through a partnership with the community and active citizen involvement in addressing community problems. We believe in the empowerment of our people to solve problems, provide service, and satisfy the needs of the community, coupled with accountability and responsibility for actions taken or omitted. We believe that pro-active team management, open communication, and employee input are to be the norm; but once decisions are made, it is critical that everyone work together toward achieving established goals. We believe that written policy and procedure are necessary to guide individuals in the performance of their duties. However, rules cannot be written to cover all contingencies and any actions taken must be legal, professional, reasonable, and consistent with the spirit and the intent of this philosophy and the law.
