Household Hazardous Waste Collection Site changes schedule
July 25, 2007
New collection schedule offers more opportunities for residents to safely dispose of household hazardous waste.
Beginning Monday, August 6, 2007, the city of Meridian will offer free hazardous waste collection services every Monday at the Sanitary Services Company headquarters located at 2130 W. Franklin Rd. in Meridian. Currently, hazardous waste collection locations may be found in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, and at the Ada County Hidden Hollow Landfill. Other city collection sites are open from Noon to 7:00 p.m. one day per month throughout the year.
The household hazardous waste service is offered free of charge to Ada County residents who need to dispose of old/unused paints, stains, solvents, pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, batteries, and other household hazardous waste items. Residents should not leave items at drop off locations if the collection vehicle and personnel are not present. Leaving toxic chemicals unattended at a collection site creates hazardous conditions and is a violation of Boise City Code 8-10-4.01 and 8-10-5.08. The program does not accept explosives, radioactive materials, biomedical waste, or tires.
Each year, the program collects approximately 1,630,000 pounds of hazardous household waste that otherwise might have made their way into the landfill and the environment. Collecting household hazardous waste at centralized locations throughout Ada County dramatically reduces the risk of environmental contamination and provides a service that enhances our quality of life.
