Wastewater Treatment Plant Tours

Learn about how Boise's wastewater is treated by visiting one of our treatment plants. The Boise Public Works Department conducts tours at our West Boise Wastewater Treatment Plants as well as our West Boise Water Quality Laboratory.
Tours are a great way for groups to learn more about the complexity of treating wastewater and how Boise City keeps our community's water clean for future generations.
Types of Tours:
West Boise Wastewater Treatment Plant
Groups will learn about basic wastewater treatment processes as well the different recycling streams that the plant has: methane gas for heating digesters and various buildings; treated wastewater for irrigation and plant wash down; and bio-solids to grow crops for livestock use at the City's Twenty Mile South Farm.
Tours are tailored to the audience and are intended for the general public, school groups (4th grade - college), and special interest groups. An educator or operator will lead the 60-minute tour, depending on the audience. Schedule through the Boise WaterShed Education Center at 489-1284 or BoiseWaterShed@cityofboise.org. Groups may wish to also schedule a visit to the Boise WaterShed at the time of the tour. For more information about our hands-on exhibits and programs visit the Boise Environmental Education website.
