History
Public library services in Boise began in 1895 in a small reading room located in the original city hall building.  In 1905 the Library opened its doors in a new Carnegie Library building on Washington St.  Today the Carnegie building houses a private business.  Since 1973 the Library has occupied the renovated Salt Lake Hardware Building in downtown Boise on Capitol Boulevard next to the Boise River.
