The Boise Police Department identifies the officers in the shooting on July 26th on the 700 block of N. 20th St. as Sgt. J. Pietrzak (27 years law enforcement experience), Sgt. K. Rush (18.5 years law enforcement experience), Officer R. Pollard (3.5 years law enforcement experience), Officer C. Fiddler (4.5 years law enforcement experience), Officer D. Rogers (6 years law enforcement experience), and Officer C. Sousa (3.5 years law enforcement experience).
The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) investigation led by the Garden City Police Department is ongoing.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force is continuing to investigate the officer-involved shooting on the evening of July 26, 2023. Several Boise Police officers responded to reports of active shooting in a neighborhood and as they safely tried to take the suspect into custody, the suspect fired at them resulting in six officers returning fire. The officers’ names will be released at a later date.
“We are seeing an increase in the frequency with which our officers are encountering people willing to use force and weapons against our officers. Officers Wednesday night encountered a subject firing a rifle in a neighborhood and when they tried to stop him, he turned the rifle on them. All too often our officers are put in situations where they have to risk their lives and courageously make decisions to protect the community,” said Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar. “This was a difficult situation for our officers, and understandably a scary and traumatic experience for those who live in the area. Our condolences go out to Mr. Juker’s loved ones.”
On July 28, 2023, the Ada County Coroner identified the suspect as 28-year-old Macey Juker.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Garden City Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting tonight on the 700 block of N. 20th St.
Around 10:24 pm dispatch alerted officers to a situation involving an armed subject on the 700 block of N. 20th St. Officers staged nearby while gathering more information. At 10:43 pm officers could hear shots fired and requested additional officers. Officers quickly responded and located the suspect. There was an exchange of gunfire and the suspect was struck. Ada County Paramedics arrived and the suspect was pronounced deceased on scene. The Ada County Coroner’s Office will release the suspect’s identity pending notification of next of kin.
No officers were physically injured during the incident. As is customary, the involved officers will be placed on administrative leave, per policy. The information in this news release is considered preliminary pending the CITF investigation. The CITF investigation is ongoing and detectives ask anyone who witnessed the critical incident to call Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790.
