Trail System Map - Wildlife Management Area

Wildlife Management Area

#12 Homestead Trail
Two miles and a 1000' climb takes you into the heart of this wildlife area. This aggressive route can be done as an out and back or a link to the other trails that provide a variety of loop opportunities. Please respect seasonal closures and stay only on the marked trails.

#13 Cobb Trail
Often combined with other trails for a loop, the route takes you near old homesteads and springs. Please stay on the marked trail and avoid ending the route through the private pastures.

#11 Highland Valley Trail
This is a fine route that follows an old road bed. While strenuous, it is one of the easier routes into this wildlife area. Please don't park in front of the gate. A small area is provided a few hundred yards before the gate along the road.

Lucky Peak Complex
Lucky Peak Trail #8, SHornet Trail #9, Shaw Mtn Road E and East Highland Valley Road F combine to offer the most intense routes on the Front. While vehicles can access these routes they also provide great views and a real work out for the intrepid. In the fall, the climb to Lucky Peak will provide the opportunity to learn about the Idaho Bird Observatory, a research project involving the raptor and song bird migration that occurs along the Boise Ridge.

Trailhead Parking:

  • Homestead Trail #12: Access is at the end of Council Springs Road (.3 miles from Warm Springs Road). Please be considerate of residences in the area.
  • West Highland Valley Trail #11 and Cobb Trail #13: Access is at the end of Highland Valley Road (.5 miles from Warm Springs Road). Please be considerate of residences in the area.
Best Bets: For an intense climb or groovy gravity ride try #12 Squaw Creek and #8 Squaw Ridge to Lucky Peak and back, but pack a lunch.
