Food Security

ARPA Food Security Funding

Community outreach and research showed the COVID-19 pandemic caused food insecurity in households and families throughout Boise. Access to affordable, nutritious, fresh, culturally appropriate and locally produced food for all Boise residents is critical to ensure a healthy and thriving community. The City of Boise is pleased to award City of Good a $1,350,000 grant to address food security needs among low-income individuals and families in Boise while strengthening the local food production and distribution systems.

City of Good has developed an action plan to create an innovative new food system designed to:

  • Increase access to locally grown produce for all Boiseans, while focusing on low-income individuals and families
  • Act as a central distribution point to receive, store, compile, and distribute local food to Boiseans through both Boise Farmers Market and partner programs
  • Support a thriving food system by paying farmers and producers fair wages for their food products
  • Provide additional collaborative and educational opportunities for food producers

Work began in earnest November 2023 and will continue through summer 2025.
