Climate Action

Carbon Neutral by 2050

Why Climate Action?

Climate change is shifting our seasons, rainfall, snowpack, air quality and water availability, impacting our health, quality of life and livelihoods. We are committed to bold climate leadership through innovative, community-driven solutions that create green jobs and a new economy for the future while protecting the well-being of all Boiseans. Together, we can build a resilient Boise where our residents thrive and economic opportunities flourish.

Our Climate Action Goals

Boise's Climate Action Roadmap is our community's plan for climate action. In 2021, we set a bold climate action goal to be carbon neutral by 2050 by achieving the following benchmarks:

  • 2030
100% Clean electricity for City of Boise government facilities
  • 2035
    • Carbon neutral for City of Boise government facilities and operations
    • 100% Clean electricity for the Boise community
  • 2050
    Carbon neutral for Boise community

How We'll Get There

Together for Tomorrow: Boise's Community Climate Action Guide

Boise’s Community Climate Action Guide - a resource created for us, by us, the residents of Boise, to help build a greener, cleaner more resilient city. The City of Boise is excited to work with our residents, hand in hand, to create a guide that encourages every Boisean to make small changes that add up to big impact, preserving the Boise we know and love for generations to come.

This is a community-driven effort to tackle the impacts of climate change. Created to empower residents with information, resources, and ways to get involved, this guide is part of Boise's larger commitment to reduce emissions, practice sustainability and preserve our shared environment. We aim to create clear steps and easy tips to adopt sustainable habits in your everyday life and connect with others across Boise who share your commitment to a cleaner, healthier city.

Research and Data

In 2000, the city began collecting research and data to develop a baseline of information to understand our current conditions and to determine where we can take action in mitigating climate change. The roadmap focuses on both eliminating greenhouse gas emissions and building resiliency so our city can adapt to climate changes in our region.

Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Approximately 36% of the annual greenhouse gas emissions were attributed to transportation around Boise in 2020. Electric or hybrid-electric vehicles reduce carbon emissions and help towards our goal of Carbon Neutrality by 2050. Explore all electric vehicle charging stations in the Treasure Valley and help take action in mitigating climate change.
