Licensing

Due to a staff shortage, the City Clerk’s Office encourages residents to make an appointment for services such as finger printing and background checks. Walk-in services are available but extended wait times are expected. To make an appointment email or call 208-972-8150.

To avoid long wait and hold times, please utilize our online systems or send us a message.

Permitting and Licensing System Update

On August 15, the Permitting and Licensing system will be upgraded to a new version.

What's changing?

This upgrade is part of our standard maintenance schedule. Our citizens should expect only minor changes to the current system.

Scheduled Outage

As part of this upgrade, the Permitting and Licensing portal and ePlanReview will be offline starting Friday, August 12 at 5:00 PM. Access will be restored Monday, August 15, at 8 a.m.

The City of Boise issues specific types of business and individual licenses to maintain the health, safety and general welfare of the public. If you engage in any of the activities listed below, you are required to maintain a valid City of Boise license. All applicants applying for the first time must complete and meet all license requirements prior to the license being issued.

The city now allows you to apply for a license online. Note some of these licenses require a background check and finger printing for a complete application. These background checks must be conducted in person at City Hall. All licenses require a fee that is due when applications are submitted.
