If You Love Them, License Them
The City of Boise, along with all jurisdictions within Ada County, requires dogs to have and wear a license. Failure to license or to renew your dog’s license could result in a citation, monetary fine and court fees. Animal licensing supports the cost of animal control within the City of Boise, and helps to reunite lost animals with their families. When it comes to your pet’s safety, we believe there’s no such thing as too much protection. Licenses can be issued online, and at several neighborhood locations throughout the city.
New Application
You can apply for your license online. First-time users must set up an account. After logging in, select "License" under "Apply."
Before applying, please have the following ready:
- Dog's Spay / Neuter Papers
To qualify for the discount (if applicable) - Proof of Owner's Age (65+)
Proof of owner's age (i.e. driver's license) is required to qualify for the senior discount (if applicable).

If you need to renew your dog license, please mail in the coupon with your payment to:

You can also pay your renewal fee through the city's online system. You will need to create an account.
After logging in, type in the record number found on your License Renewal form.
