The Junior Fire Marshal Program is an exciting and educational initiative that teaches young children the importance of fire safety in a fun, engaging way. Through interactive learning experiences, hands-on activities, and virtual lessons, we empower children to become fire safety superheroes at home and in their communities.

Meet Blaze, the firedog extraordinaire for the Junior Fire Marshal program! Blaze makes fire safety super fun for kids and grown-ups to learn!

Blaze works alongside the Fire Marshal, Fire Inspectors and Firefighters in Boise to ensure everyone stays safe from fires and emergencies.

Our Programs

Fire Safety Week Visits

During the Fall, Boise Fire Department firefighters visit first-graders in the Boise School District, West Ada School District, and private and charter schools to teach important fire safety lessons. Children learn about:

  • Smoke Alarms – What they sound like, why they are important, and what to do when they go off.
  • Tools vs. Toys – Understanding the difference between items that are safe to play with and those that are for adults only.
  • Firefighters as Community Helpers – Meeting real firefighters, seeing their gear up close, and learning how they keep our community safe.

Fire Safe House

During the Spring, Boise Fire Department Prevention Captains visit second-graders in the Boise School District, West Ada School District, and private and charter schools to teach important fire safety lessons. Instructors bring a classroom on-wheels to provide a hands-on, interactive learning experience. Children learn about:

  • Smoke Alarms – What they sound like, why they are important, what to do when they go off, and the importance of testing them.
  • Two Ways Out -Identifying at least two exits in every room.
  • Escape Plans – Making a plan with your family and practicing the plan as a family.
  • Meeting Places – Knowing where to go outside, so everyone in the family can be accounted for.
  • Get Outside, Stay Outside – Once you leave a burning building, never go back inside.
