Flammable / Combustible Liquids or Tank Permit

The flammable/combustible liquids or tank permit applies to the installation, removal or alteration of above and underground tanks housing Class I, II, IIIA flammable and combustible liquids. Included in this permit are associated product lines, vent lines and dispensers.

Application Instructions and Materials

For this application to be complete, you will need specific documentation depending on the permit request.

New

For new installations of tanks, please have the following materials ready for your application:

  • Plans showing details for all tanks, piping, dispensers, sumps, monitor well (if applicable), interstitial monitoring, pipe trench detail, tank pit cross section, fill material, dead man detail and overall site plan with distances.
  • Manufacturer cut sheets for all installed equipment related to installation of tank.
  • Statement of soil type and proposed laybacks.

Removal

To remove, leave or dispose of a tank you will need the following materials ready for your application:

  • Prevention plan drawings (site plan) showing the location of the tank in relation to surrounding area.
  • A statement of operation including type of tank, size, contents, means of removing contents and vapor, and fill type for abandonments.

Alteration

To remove, leave or dispose of a tank you will need to have the following materials ready for your application:

  • Prevention plan drawings (site plan) showing the location of tanks, lines and dispensers involved in alteration.
  • Statement of operations describing alterations to be made.
  • Manufacturer cut sheets for all new equipment.

Application

  1. Log in to our online permitting and licensing system. If you are a first time user of this system, you will need to create an account.
  2. After logging in, click "Apply" and select "Fire Permit" from the top menu bar.
  • Review and accept the online disclaimer and complete the application.
  • In your application you will have the opportunity to request an inspection date and time. Please note that the Fire Department will contact you directly to confirm your inspection time.
