Burn Permit Information

A burn permit is needed for burning natural vegetation on your property and applies only for fence lines and irrigation ditches within the City of Boise city limits.

Application Materials

Before applying for this permit, please have the following materials ready:

Prevention Plan Drawings

Prevention plan drawings (site plan) including overall dimensions including distance to lot-lines and proximate buildings.

Activity Description

Activity description including the area to be burned and the fire suppression precautions implemented.

Application

  1. Log in to our online permitting and licensing system. If you are a first time user of this system, you will need to create an account.
  2. After logging in, click "Apply" and select "Fire Permit" from the top menu bar.
  • Review and accept the online disclaimer and complete the application.
  • In your application you will have the opportunity to request an inspection date and time. Please note that the Fire Department will contact you directly to confirm your inspection time.

Burning Restrictions

Burning hours are from 8:00 a.m. to sunset. Burning shall not take place on days when adverse weather conditions create a safety hazard. Open burning is prohibited when the air quality index (AQI) reaches 60 or higher for any pollutant. Prior to burning contact the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) at 208-373-0313 for the recorded AQI message of the day. Visit the Department of Environmental Quality website for controlled burning information.

Residents who live in the Whitney Fire District should visit the Ada County website to learn about their safe burning requirements.
