Flame Effects Before an Audience

The Flame Effects Before a Live Audience permit applies to performances in which fire is part of the performance. This includes:

  • Fire breathing
  • Fire eating
  • Application of fire to a person
  • Use of tools on fire
  • and other similar applications using the manipulation of fire

Application Materials

Before applying for this permit, please have the following materials ready:

Prevention Plan Drawings

The prevention plan drawings (site plan) should include: performance area, crowd barrier, location of fuels, distance to structures and location of fire suppression materials and safety personnel.

Activity Description

The activity description should include: description of tools, performance script/schedule, number of performers, fire prevention measures, safety plan, performer qualifications and types of fuels to be used.

SDS

Safety data sheets (SDS) for all fuels to be used in the performance.

Insurance

Proof of a blanket insurance policy or individual performer certificates of insurance.

Application

  1. Log in to our online permitting and licensing system. If you are a first time user of this system, you will need to create an account.
  2. After logging in, click "Apply" and select "Fire Permit" from the top menu bar.
  • Review and accept the online disclaimer and complete the application.
  • In your application you will have the opportunity to request an inspection date and time. Please note that the Fire Department will contact you directly to confirm your inspection time.
