Special Events - Fire

Applies to City licensed Special Events that includes fire department staff plan review/city meeting attendance and inspection of event related Fire Operational Permits (i.e. Stages, Tents, Pyrotechnics, etc.) Submission of this permit will also require the inclusion of the requested material for each applicable permit activity.

Application Materials

Before applying for this permit, please have the following materials ready:

Prevention Plan Maps

Map/Site plan needs to Include location of all Fire permit related activities

Tents, Canopies or Membrane Structures

Applies to tents more than 700 sq. ft.; over 400 sq. ft. walled tent or stage canopy; or more than 7 tents in a row without fire breaks

  • Picture or description of tent layout including quantity of tents, tent dimensions, fire extinguisher location, number of walls, and (if applicable) door placement. Exit sign and No smoking sign locations need to be noted if tent includes walls and doors.
Temporary Event Structures
  • Stages over 400 sq. ft. and stage canopies need to provide design profession/structural engineer approval or certification.
  • Pre-engineered mobile trailer stages/structures need to submit manufacturer's specifications or owner’s manual.
Pyrotechnics

Does NOT include Public Firework Displays

  • Provide activity description and schedule
  • Tools/equipment being used during performance
  • Fuel safety data sheets (SDS) for all fuel types being used
  • Fire Safety Plan including fire prevention measures: crowd barrier, personnel, and suppression materials (i.e. fire extinguishers)
  • Blanket insurance policy or individual performer certificates of insurance

Application

  1. Log in to our online permitting and licensing system. If you are a first time user of this system, you will need to create an account.
  2. After logging in, click "Apply" and select "Fire Permit" from the top menu bar.
  • Review and accept the online disclaimer and complete the application.
  • In your application you will have the opportunity to request an inspection date and time. Please note that the Fire Department will contact you directly to confirm your inspection time.
