Boise on the Block

8th Street with bikes and customers

The City of Boise is working in partnership with businesses and restaurants in our community, as well as key stakeholders such as the Downtown Boise Association and the Capitol City Development Corporation, to expand restaurant patio seating as our community recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is to allow restaurants, along with other businesses, to open safely and ensure the health of residents and employees is protected by allowing for appropriate physical distancing.

8th Street

Earlier this summer, the City of Boise did a pilot modification in the downtown Boise core along 8th Street where we have more ownership of the streets and sidewalks.

See maps for location details:

With the success of this pilot, we are pleased to announce more concepts now available for businesses.

More Concepts

Business interested in expanding their outdoor options have four concepts to consider.

  • Longitudinal Expansion: expand patio seating laterally along a building.
  • Parklet Expansion: expand patio seating in parking spaces.
  • Sidewalk Expansion: Same model as 8th Street, where existing patio seating is extended to the sidewalk
  • Partial Street Closure: Close a street fully to allow for patios to expand and reroute sidewalks and bike lanes.

If your business is interested in learning more about any of these options, please contact us.
