Wastewater Testing

The City of Boise samples the water that enters its Water Renewal Facilities from homes and businesses in Boise, Garden City and Eagle. Reliable and accurate testing shows the quantity of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in our community's used water (wastewater). Analysis of historical trends show that when the quantity of SARS-CoV-2 goes up in wastewater, levels of COVID-19 infections in the community increase five to seven days later. These samples cannot show us how many people are infected, or which areas of the city have more cases.

These results should be interpreted with caution and as only one piece of a holistic assessment of all public health data.

This chart shows the average level of SARS-CoV-2 in the city’s wastewater over time. Results are updated every 3 business days.
