Happy Fourth of July!

Message from the Mayor

Everyone loves a good fireworks show and this Thursday – the Fourth of July –  Ann Morrison Park and just about every park, lawn, sidewalk, parking lot and rooftop near it will be covered with revelers eager for one of the best fireworks show in the Northwest.

This annual celebration of our nation is a fun family-focused tradition for our fine city. I hope you and your loved ones will join us.

The fireworks will start at 10:15 p.m., but as always, food and drink vendors will open for business at 6 p.m. for people who want to spend some time in the park before the big show. Also, please keep in mind that there are a number of road closures for this event, so please plan accordingly. Here’s a quick rundown of everything you need to know.

If you want to make a full day of celebrations on the Fourth, or if fireworks just aren’t your thing, there’s plenty of other family fun throughout the day.

Starting early at 7 a.m., the Gem State Kiwanis 4th of July Pancake Breakfast will happening in Julia Davis Park. Proceeds benefit Kiwanis youth programs and scholarships. Tickets are $8 general, $7 seniors, $6 children 13 and younger, and $25 for families. Current active duty military personnel and their families can eat for free. Tickets can be purchased at the door or here in advance.

Of course, no Fourth of July would be complete without the parade. This year, the "We the People" Liberty Day Parade starts at 11 a.m. and will wind its way down 10th and Jefferson streets in downtown Boise. Here’s a map of the route and more parade information.

One final word about fun and safety this holiday: The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend the display in Ann Morrison Park. But if you decide to purchase your own, please only buy “safe and sane” fireworks from a licensed seller. Remember that all fireworks are prohibited in the Boise foothills. here are a number of other things to keep in mind to ensure you stay safe.

From everyone at the City of Boise, we hope that you and yours have a fun, wonderful and safe holiday. As always, thanks for everything you do to make Boise the most livable city in the country.

Happy Fourth of July!

Mayor Dave Bieter
