The Office of Police Oversight will be open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8-5 p.m. to receive walk-in complaints. We continue to receive complaints and concerns via our website, by email, telephone and mail.
The Office of Police Oversight provides impartial review and investigation of complaints of misconduct by Boise police officers. In addition, the Office of Police Oversight conducts independent reviews of officer involved shootings and other critical incidents. We are completely independent of the Boise Police Department and answer directly to the Mayor and City Council. Our mission is to promote public confidence in the professionalism and accountability of the employees of the Boise Police Department.

The Boise City Council established the Office of Police Oversight in July 1999. The Office was established to investigate complaints of misconduct against City of Boise police and law enforcement officers. The Office is independent of the Boise Police Department and all other city departments.Learn more
The Office of Police Oversight has jurisdiction over the Boise City Police Department. The office cannot investigate complaints or matters pertaining to, or regarding, any other agency outside of the Boise Police Department.
Generally, the Office of Police Oversight will accept complaints that fall under the jurisdiction of the office within 90 days of the incident giving rise to the complaint. If the matter has been reported to, or investigated by, the Boise Police Department Office of Internal Affairs, an Appeal of that investigation finding will be accepted within 30 days of the finding.
