City of Boise Goathead Mitigation Program

The City of Boise Goathead Mitigation Program is designed to address the pervasive issue of goathead, an invasive species detrimental to the ecological balance and recreational quality of urban and natural areas in Boise, Idaho. This strategic plan outlines a comprehensive five-year approach to mitigating goathead. The plan focuses on control and reduction of existing populations and prevention of new outbreaks.

Boise State University Research

Boise State Univeristy studied the impact of goatheads throughout the City of Boise. They found that goatheads may be disproportionately impacting communities where property values are lower. Considering these communities are more likely to rely on bicycle transportation, it seems that goatheads create a vicious cycle of creating more bike tire punctures, frustration and economic burden for these communities.
