J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation 1966
Joe and Kathryn Albertson’s lasting partnership was marked by great love, unwavering support and respect for hard work. Joe founded his first store in 1939 on three simple principles: quality, good value and excellent service.
He always insisted on putting the needs of the customer first, pioneering the complete one-stop, self-service supermarket concept. Albertsons was innovative for its time, introducing unique services like a scratch bakery, automatic donut machine, homemade ice cream and one of the first magazine racks in the country.
In 1966, Joe and Kathryn created the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation. They felt strongly about family and about the importance of providing opportunity to others. The Albertson family continues to guide the work of the foundation, remaining dedicated to raising awareness and expanding ways to learn, and to enhancing sense of place and community for all Idahoans.
As a private family foundation, investing in limitless learning, innovative people and stronger communities, it honors the generous and visionary legacy of Joe and Kathryn Albertson, a legacy built on making Idaho an extraordinary place to learn, thrive and prosper.
