Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve Channel Restoration and Invasive Species Removal Project

This project will improve hydrologic function and ecological health at Hyatt Hidden Lakes Reserve by restoring natural water flow through targeted excavation.

Over time, wetland channels have become clogged with sediment and dense stands of invasive plant species, particularly Phragmites australis, which have restricted water movement, reduced habitat quality, and displaced native wetland vegetation.

The proposed work will involve carefully excavating accumulated sediment and removing invasive plant material from existing wetland channels to restore their original conveyance capacity. Excavation will be conducted using a backhoe with efforts made to minimize disturbance to surrounding wetland soils and vegetation. Removed plant material and sediment will be left on site.

Channel excavation will restore deeper, more consistent water flow through the wetland, creating hydrologic conditions that are less favorable for the establishment and spread of invasive species such as Phragmites australis while promoting native wetland vegetation.
