Boise Parks and Recreation is responsible for the maintenance of 73 restrooms throughout the city. We take pride in our work and do our best to keep the restrooms clean and free of vandalism.
While some restrooms in Boise parks are heated and open year-round, others must be winterized and closed during the winter months in order to protect the pipes and infrastructure and prevent costly damage. Signage is posted at restrooms that close during the winter months.
The process of closing or opening park restrooms can take several weeks. In a typical year, crews begin winterizing and closing restroom facilities and turning off drinking fountains in mid-October when temperatures start to drop. Our park restrooms need to be winterized before freezing temperatures in order to prevent the pipes from freezing. In mid-April when the weather warms up, we start the process of reopening the restrooms for the spring and summer.
At some parks, the restrooms are winterized and remain open year-round. In high use areas and at sports fields without permanent facilities, we provide well-maintained portable restrooms.
