2026 Greenbelt Improvement Project

The City of Boise’s Parks and Recreation Department has budgeted for Boise River Greenbelt projects in fiscal year 2026 to repair and replace sections of the Greenbelt that are in poor condition. One section of pathway identified for updates is located near Wood Duck Island along E. Parkriver Dr. from S. Temperance Way to E. Rivernest Court. The project will result in significant improvements of the existing Greenbelt pathway at Wood Duck Island and connection to Barber Park. This project will be constructed in 2026. A timeline and final sections selected to be replaced will be provided once construction is scheduled.  Currently our team is completing survey work and preparing preliminary drawings to obtain permitting for the scheduled work.

This section of pathway was selected as high priority for replacement due to current poor conditions. Some of the paths are cracked, others have damage due to roots or degrading subgrade. The existing asphalt paths will be replaced with concrete, creating a smooth surface. Concrete lasts much longer than asphalt and is less susceptible to tree root damage. All of the existing benches, trash cans and bollards will also be updated.

The department’s priority is to continue to repair and or replace sections of the Boise River Greenbelt an annual basis, as funding allows.

Wood Duck Island Construction Area

Our team realizes the Greenbelt is heavily used as a transportation corridor and for recreational purposes. The department will make every effort to work with contractors to complete these projects efficiently. Detours will be established and signed for all projects, and we will update our website to provide information throughout construction.

Ada County will be making repairs to Barber Park replacing their damaged path this upcoming year as well. Their process is currently in the bidding phase. Once the bidding process is done, our teams will try to coordinate timelines and construction.

We apologize for the temporary inconvenience during repair and replacement but in the long run, the department is confident this work will improve the longevity of the path and create a better user experience for everyone.
