Impacts to the Boise River Greenbelt

2025 Greenbelt Improvement Projects

Boise Parks and Recreation is replacing and improving three sections of the Boise River Greenbelt in 2025. These sections of pathway were selected as high priority for replacement due to current poor conditions. Some of the paths are cracked, others have damage due to roots or degrading subgrade. The existing asphalt paths will be replaced with concrete, creating a smooth surface. Concrete lasts much longer than asphalt and is less susceptible to tree root damage. All of the existing benches, trash cans and bollards will also be updated.

Work on the first section of path began on Tuesday, May 27 and projects will continue on a rolling basis into the fall. The projects will occur one phase at a time. The contractor on this project is Clearwater Landscape.

We apologize for this temporary inconvenience but in the long run, we are confident this work will improve the longevity of the path and create a better user experience for everyone.

PROJECT IMPROVEMENTS

  • Path will be widened and re-aligned through the memorial to improve traffic flow and safety.
  • Additional signage to educate users related to speed and navigation is being installed.
  • Adding a series of security cameras and lighting updates on-site.

IMPACTED AREAS

  • Public access to the North half of the Memorial will be closed for the entire project. The Outdoor Classroom area will remain open for the duration of the construction.
  • Starting on Tuesday, May 27, the 8th Street Pedestrian Bridge will be closed to all users due to planned replacement of the intersection between 8th Street and the Idaho Anne Frank Human Rights Memorial. There will be separate signed detours for pedestrians and bicyclists. It is recommended pedestrians use River Street and 9th Street sidewalks to navigate around the project. It is recommended bicyclists use River Street and the Pioneer Pathway. The Pioneer Bridge in Ann Morrison Park and Friendship Bridge in Julia Davis Park are also safe alternatives for users who want to remain on the Greenbelt. Work is estimated to be completed by Thursday, July 3.

Warm Springs Grill + Golf Greenbelt Impacts

The Warm Springs Grill + Golf facility is under construction at Warm Springs Golf Course. The Boise River Greenbelt path along the north side of the Boise River that passes through the golf course is expected to remain open during construction. However, users should be aware of golf carts crossing the Greenbelt as well as heavy equipment working in the area.

Please slow down when traveling along the construction zone and pay attention to all posted signs, including stop signs at marked crossings, for your own safety. Temporary detours and re-routes near the construction site are expected as this project is built-out.

We will ensure the necessary alerts are provided and signage is posted to communicate temporary re-routes as the project progresses. This may also require cyclists to dismount and walk their bicycle through the area.

Thank you for your attention and understanding as we keep the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and golfers top of mind throughout the project.
