Boise Parks and Recreation recently initiated a year-long, community-led effort to update the master plan for Veterans Memorial Park. For reference, a park master plan is a guide that calls for specific elements, amenities and design aspects planned for the park’s future. The work to update the Veterans Memorial Park master plan started in 2022 and concluded in 2023, as required by the City of Boise's management agreement with Idaho State Parks and Recreation. Impact fee funds are anticipated to be available for the park improvements in 2025.
A robust public outreach process was part of the initiative to update the park master plan. Following an open house and online survey in early 2023, parks division team members incorporated community feedback into the proposed master plan design. The primary park features and improvements that emerged from the feedback included a desire for a disc golf course, nature play area and improved security infrastructure at the park. Thank you to the more than 1,300 community members who participated in the community engagement process.
After a public hearing on the proposed updates to the park’s master plan design, the Boise Parks and Recreation Commission unanimously approved the master plan update at its May 15, 2023, meeting. Click here to watch a recording of the meeting, which included a presentation from staff.

Next Steps
Construction on site improvements and the new park features outlined in the updated master plan is expected to begin this summer (2025). The department’s design team is now working closely with disc golf professionals, nearby neighborhood associations and other stakeholders to finalize the design of the 18-hole disc golf course to best meet the needs of all park users. Safety, as always, is top of mind.
All additional project information will be shared on the City of Boise's website as the project moves forward. Thank you for your continued engagement and interest throughout the City of Boise’s process to update and improve Veterans Memorial Park.
