Lowell Pool Project

The City of Boise is working to rehabilitate and restore the historic Lowell Pool, which opened to the public in 1953. The facility was designed by engineer Wesley Bintz and constructed by Jordane and Sons of Boise.
The project will address the aging facility’s structural and mechanical needs while improving accessibility and bringing the pool into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. A new support building will be constructed behind the pool to help create an accessible, durable, all-electric and community-focused facility that can serve future generations.
The City of Boise is committed to completing the project and keeping the community informed throughout the process. Opportunities for public input and feedback will be shared as they become available during design and construction.
Project Status + Timeline Information
The City of Boise selected CORE Construction to complete the design work for Lowell Pool. A contract was approved by the Boise City Council on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Click here to view a recording of the meeting on the City of Boise’s Public Meetings YouTube channel.
The timeline for on-site construction has not yet been determined, but the Boise Parks and Recreation Department will keep the public informed as the project progresses. Please be assured that the City of Boise remains fully committed to this project and is dedicated to seeing it through to completion.
The building will remain closed throughout its restoration. Parking adjacent to Lowell Pool is not expected to be impacted until future phases of construction and will remain open for the time being.
Budget
The City of Boise’s budget for rehabilitation and restoration of the pool, along with needed electrical, mechanical and ADA upgrades is approximately $9.4 million. Funding has been allocated for design work, and additional budget has been earmarked in future budget plans for the project.
Lowell Pool Reopening
Based on funding availability and current design and construction work projections, Lowell Pool is expected to reopen in the summer of 2029.
Project completion estimates are subject to change due to volatility in the construction industry. Current challenges include material availability, rising costs, supply chain disruptions, staffing shortages and more. Boise Parks and Recreation will update project timelines as needed if delays occur.
