Phishing Emails Targeting Boise Planning and Development Users

The City of Boise was recently made aware of phishing scams targeting our community. These fraudulent emails may appear to come from city staff and request payment for permits or applications.

These messages are not legitimate and are designed to trick recipients into clicking malicious links or providing personal and financial information.

If You Receive a Suspicious Email

  • Do not click on any links or open attachments.
  • Do not reply or send any information.
  • Report the email as phishing and delete it.


What You Should Know

  • Verify the sender’s email address before responding to any requests. Official City of Boise emails will always come from addresses ending in @cityofboise.org.
  • The city will never request payment via wire transfer or gift card.
  • All payments to the City of Boise are made securely through the city’s official online portal or in person at City Hall.

How to Spot a Phishing Email

  • Check the sender’s email address carefully.
  • Be wary of urgent or threatening language.
  • Hover over links before clicking to verify the URL.
  • Look for poor grammar or suspicious attachments.
  • Never provide personal or financial information via email.
