Corporal Denny Carter

Police officer

On November 11, 2016, officers pursued an armed fugitive into a residential neighborhood. The team conducted a yard to yard search, while the suspect was lying in wait. As officers approached, the suspect ambushed them ─ wounding Corporal Davis, Corporal Holtry and K-9 Jardo.

Corporal Carter observed Corporal Holtry get shot and fall to the ground by the suspect, who was crouched only three feet away. Corporal Carter engaged in a gunfight with the suspect, as he moved to place himself between the suspect and Corporal Holtry. As other members of the Unit began to exchange gunfire, Corporal Carter, with the assistance of Officer Kincaid, began to drag Corporal Holtry to a position of cover and provided lifesaving medical treatment.

For his outstanding bravery and heroism, with risk of death or serious personal injury, Corporal Denny Carter is awarded a Boise Police Department Medal of Honor.
