K9 Jardo

K9 Jardo posing outside

On November 11, 2016, Boise Police Officers pursued an armed violent fugitive. Officers located the suspect in a residential neighborhood and set a containment perimeter. Corporal Shane Williams, his K9 partner Jardo, and members of the Boise Police Department Special Operations Unit, responded to conduct an area search. The suspect was lying in wait to ambush Officers. As Officers approached the suspect’s location, he began to fire upon them, wounding two officers. Jardo charged in and engaged the suspect at great peril to his own life. In doing so, Jardo disrupted the suspect’s ability to continue firing on officers, one of which was critically injured. The suspect turned his weapon on Jardo, seriously wounding him. This gave Officers the opportunity to respond to the ambush and engage the suspect. Jardo’s heroic actions

protected Officers, apprehended a violent suspect and prevented the loss of innocent lives. Jardo has brought our department and community together through his heroic actions and service.

For acting with outstanding heroism in order to save another human life, and for ultimately giving his life in the performance of his duty, the Boise Police Department’s Medal of Honor and Police Cross are awarded to K9 Officer Jardo.
