Crime Lab

BPD Crime Lab

The Boise Police Department Crime Lab works behind the scenes every day answering tough questions, solving crimes, and bringing forth justice through the power of science. BPD’s team of Criminalists provides forensic services for criminal investigations, analyzes, evaluates, and examines evidence, interprets results, and provides technical assistance and training, as well as expert testimony.

The Crime Lab, which is responsible for documenting and analyzing crime scenes and evidence, received international accreditation by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) in 2022. The A2LA accreditation covers three disciplines, crime scene investigation, biology screening, and latent print processing and examination.

This accreditation gives our community the assurance and peace of mind that they can trust our results.

"Having this outside entity review our processes and procedures proves our services meet the highest standards, and we are very proud of this international accreditation."

The Boise Police Department Crime Lab is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 through April 30, 2024. To maintain A2LA accreditation, outside assessors independently evaluate laboratory manuals, reports, and corrective actions. Representatives of A2LA regularly visit laboratories to assess compliance to international standards and laboratory policy and procedure.
