The Boise Police Department volunteer program seeks to enhance the mission, goals and efforts of the Boise Police Department, as well as to promote community involvement, awareness and support.
Volunteer Opportunities
Vehicle Fleet Maintenance and Shuttling
This team assists with the general maintenance of the squad vehicles and moves them to appropriate locations, when necessary.
Greenbelt Ambassadors
The Boise River Greenbelt is monitored year-round by Boise Police bike officers and a dedicated team of volunteers.
Greenbelt Ambassadors are community-minded volunteers who patrol the pathway by bike or cart. They serve as friendly, knowledgeable representatives who help keep the Greenbelt safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.
What do Greenbelt Ambassadors do?
- Offer assistance: Provide directions, answer questions, and help community members in need—whether it’s a flat tire, a first-aid concern, or reuniting a lost child with their family.
- Patrol the Greenbelt: Serve as extra eyes and ears, reporting suspicious behavior or safety concerns to the Boise Police Department.
- Promote safety and awareness: Help educate users about park rules, responsible recreation, and general safety practices.
Qualifications
Ambassadors should have a few hours each week to volunteer. Applicants must:
- Be at least 21 years old
- Have no recent major or habitual violations of the law, including drug-related offenses or activities that could impact credibility as a representative of the Boise Police Department
- Have no felony convictions
- Understand that other criminal or driving offenses may also lead to disqualification
Application timeline: Applications are reviewed October 1, with interviews occurring October–November. Applications received after October 1 will be considered the following year. Selected volunteers begin service in the spring.
