The Boise Police Department volunteer program seeks to enhance the mission, goals and efforts of the Boise Police Department, as well as to promote community involvement, awareness and support.
Volunteer Opportunities
Vehicle Fleet Maintenance and Shuttling
This team assists with the general maintenance of the squad vehicles and moves them to appropriate locations, when necessary.
Greenbelt Ambassadors
The Greenbelt is patrolled year round by uniformed police officers on bicycles, assisted by a few part-time Rangers and many volunteers. Please note, Greenbelt Volunteer applications will be considered from October 1st through November 30th annually.
Greenbelt Ambassadors are dedicated volunteers who patrol the Greenbelt by bike or cart. They act as friendly faces and helpful resources, contributing to a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
What do Greenbelt Ambassadors do?
- Offer assistance: They provide directions, answer questions, and help those in need, from flat tires to lost children.
- Patrol the Greenbelt: Ambassadors keep a watchful eye, reporting suspicious activity or safety concerns to the Boise Police Department.
- Promote safety and awareness: Ambassadors educate Greenbelt users about park rules, regulations, and safety tips.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a few hours each week or month to volunteer. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, and free from any recent major of habitual violations of the law, including drug use or possession, or any other activities or associations that would affect credibility as a representative of the Boise Police Department. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Other criminal convictions or driving offenses may also be grounds for rejection.
Please note, Greenbelt Volunteer applications will be considered from October 1st through November 30th annually. Applications received outside of this timeframe will be considered the following October. Volunteers who are selected and approved will begin the following spring.
Selection Process
The selection process typically takes 4-8 weeks and includes an application (online), 30 minute interview, criminal history record check and a background investigation.
