Medications and Medication Bottles

Residents can drop off unwanted and expired medications and prescriptions at designated drop-off locations for free and safe disposal. By participating in this program, residents will protect the Boise River's water quality and reduce the potential for medication mistakes and misuse in our community.

For more information and to find medication disposal sites, see Medication and Sharps Disposal.

How to dispose of EMPTY medication bottles:

  • If it is a plastic #1 or #2, the bottle with the lid attached can go in your recycling cart.
  • If it is a plastic #4-7, the bottle with lid attached can go in the Hefty Renew Orange Bag.
  • If it is made of glass, drop off the bottle at one of Boise's residential glass collection sites.
