Pressure Irrigation

NOTICE TO CUSTOMERS: Irrigation is currently off. It will be activated again in April 2026.

In Boise, irrigation water is diverted from the Boise River and distributed by large irrigation canals and smaller irrigation laterals to local neighborhoods throughout the city. Subdivisions built in the last 10 years are eligible to hook up to the pressure irrigation system. The Boise Public Works Department has design standards for constructing pressure irrigation systems in new subdivisions.

DESIGN STANDARDS

Pressure irrigation water is not water from the drinking water system (operated by Veolia Water or the Capitol Water Company). If your neighborhood has pressure irrigation, it has a second water system for irrigation which is completely separate from the drinking water system. Property owners connect to the pressure irrigation system and use it to irrigate their property.

Frequently Asked Questions

The irrigation system can only support six to eight houses watering at the same time. With dozens of houses on the system, a set schedule ensures everyone has fair and reliable access without overwhelming the system.

Times were assigned to evenly distribute demand, maximize watering times, and ensure no part of the system gets overloaded.

To keep the system balanced, we ask everyone to stick to their assigned time. If you miss a slot, use the next available one assigned to you.

We’re counting on community cooperation to maintain the watering schedule but repeat violations may lead to further action.

The system's current capacity is limited by pipe size, pressure, flow rate and the amount of water delivered by the irrigation district. Water volume is based on regional regulations set by the Idaho Department of Water Resources and cannot be increased to accommodate more houses watering at once.
