Public Hearing on Proposed Initiative Petitions

A citizen-led initiative recently gathered sufficient signatures to place an ordinance on the November ballot asking citizens if a vote should be required on any library project costing more than $25 million. If successful, this "vote on whether to vote" would require a subsequent ballot measure on the actual Library Campus project.

The City Council is considering whether to let the “vote to vote” proceed or to pass the initiative ordinance so that the Library Campus project can be placed on the ballot in November, bypassing the need for two elections.

A public hearing on the initiatives will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25 in the City Council Chambers at Boise City Hall, 150 N. Capitol Blvd. Following the public hearing, the council will consider how to proceed.

About the City Council
All City Council meetings are open to the public, except for the Executive Sessions which deal with personnel, litigation and other items specifically allowed by the Idaho Open Meetings Law.

While the meetings are open to the public, not all agenda items are subject to public testimony. If you would like to contact a Council Member on an item that is not on the public hearing calendar, contact the City Council office to be put in touch with a Council Member directly.

If you are interested in testifying on a public hearing item, a sign-up sheet is available before each meeting in the lobby outside of the Council Chambers. After everyone who has signed up to testify has done so, the Mayor and Council will accept comment from anyone present who was not able to sign-up before the meeting.
