As a way to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire that burned in Chicago during October 8th-10th, 1871, fire crews drive their engines to schools in the Boise School District, West Ada School District, and a few private schools for Fire Safety Week. During this week, Boise Fire crews reach about 15,000 primary grade students and provide memorable lessons regarding firefighting, fire safety, and emergency preparedness.
From October, 3rd-7th, 2022, assigned on-duty Boise Fire Department Personnel will discuss life safety systems like smoke detectors, fire drills at school and at home, Stop, Drop, and Roll and to not play with fire. They will also show-and-tell fire extinguishing equipment from their toolbox and to “Never Fear a Firefighter” in their gear. The goal of Fire Safety Week is to reach out to as many Kindergarten through Second Graders and provide meaningful lessons on Fire Safety.
